Introduction
Rossmax Peak Flow Meter is used to measure peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR), an important indicator of your lung function. Peak Flow Meter should be used for monitoring respiratory conditions such as asthma. This meter was designed to make following your asthma treatment plan easy. Taking peak flow measures every day and keeping a record of the peak flow measures in your “peak flow diary” can help you and your physician make important decisions about your treatment. You should use this meter and set its color zone indicators according to a treatment plan developed for you by your physician. is important to keep your peak flow meter clean when in use.
Your peak flow measurement will fall into one of three zones:
Green – Follow your regular medication plan, and go ahead with normal activities (80-100% of best reading).
Yellow – Caution, your asthma might be worsening. Follow your medication instructions to get back to your green zone (50-80% of best reading).
Red – Medical alert, get medical advice and attention immediately (< 50% of best reading).
How to use
- Set red indicator to bottom of scale.
- Stand up, take a deep breath, place your mouth around the peak flow meter and hold it horizontally, your lips form a tight seal.
- Blow the air out as hard and as fast as possible. The number where indicator stops is your peak measurement. Coughing and spitting into the meter will adversely affect your reading and should be avoided.
- Repeat the steps 1, 2, 3 twice more to obtain three readings. Record the highest reading in your daily record chart.
